Mme Sylvie Charette

BACK-AND-FORTH

What kind of music do you like?

I like French music, Aznavour, anything to do with France.

What’s your favourite TV show?

Downtown Abbey. I’m really interested in the monarchy. I would have liked to live at that time.

What do you do when you need to destress?

I read and do meditation. The discipline helps me manage my anxiety.

SYLVIE CHARETTE

Paralegal

At VSB Title Attorneys, Sylvie is the experienced assistant that everyone turns to when they need sound advice.

A LOYAL EMPLOYEE

Even though she harbours no regrets and knows she made the right choice by following her son, Jean-Philippe, a partner with VSB, it was still exceptionally hard to leave the company where she had worked for 32 years. Behind her, she left job stability, along with a team and employer who had become friends.

A fitting JOB

Sylvie has always loved writing, history and learning, and the notary field brings together all three. From a modest family with four children, she never had the chance to study law. No matter: she has no regrets! She loves what she does—research and writing—without carrying the burden of a notary’s responsibilities. It’s the best of both worlds!

EMPATHY: A BASIC RULE

Sylvie believes that clients need to know that they’re being listened to, that they are not alone, and that every effort possible will go into meeting their needs. That’s why empathy is essential in her field.

IN THE WORLD OF YOUNG NOTARIES

Since she had always worked for older notaries, it took some adjustment when she found herself surrounded by three very enthusiastic young people. They represent the total opposite of her previous practice, but this change was for the better. Timothée, Jean-Philippe and Catherine made her quickly feel that she was in the right place, and they appreciate the experience she brings. When they get a little too excited at times, she knows how to gently bring them back down to earth and guide them in their thoughts.
